Historic Resources Board approves minutes, votes to continue Pine Terrace HOA hearing

The Historic Resources Board on the meeting completed routine business by approving the November 17 meeting minutes and voting to continue the Pine Terrace HOA (HE2565) matter to a date uncertain so the HOA can develop a project list for permitting.

Staff member Anna Jeanette told the board the Pine Terrace matter had been continued from the recent meeting and that the HOA requested more time; the board voted to continue the application on a roll-call vote. The roll call recorded yes votes from Board member Dyer, Board member Guelteri and the chair (recorded on the roll call as Cronin).

On the consent agenda, the board approved the November 17 regular meeting minutes. The motion to approve the minutes was moved and seconded during the consent portion and passed on roll call with affirmative votes from Board member Dyer, Board member Guelteri and Chair Kromen.

In the director's report staff proposed preparing a resolution to recognize longtime service by Bobbi Voorhis and asked to coordinate timing with the clerk so the honoree could attend. The board discussed content for the recognition and staff will prepare draft language for a future meeting.

Board announcements included an item noting that former board member Thomas Hood won an AIA Monterey Bay Design Award for the Jeffers Cabin reconstruction and a member sharing two newspaper articles that raised both encouraging and cautionary notes about historic-rehabilitation programs in larger cities.

A board member also raised concerns about decision-making that strays from the letter of city regulations toward personal aesthetics and asked staff to research the feasibility and parameters of creating a "historic entity" designation (recognition not tied to a specific building). Staff agreed to look into it and bring options as a future agenda item.

The board confirmed its next regular meeting date as January 26 and the chair adjourned the meeting.
