Beyond the data-center debate, the Mason City Council handled routine business on Dec. 5, including approval of an amended consent calendar and a contested vendor-list resolution.
Council amended the consent calendar to remove B1 and E1 and approved the remainder by unanimous voice vote. The council also moved and approved Resolution 2025-49, amending the city’s professional-service vendors list for fiscal year 2026 after a discussion on sole-provider designations and the scope of the vendor list; that resolution passed by roll call 5-2.
Council also formally received the resignation of Planning Commissioner Maggie Wren Peterson; council members thanked her for service. During discussion on the vendor list, some council members raised concerns about the number of "best provider" entries and urged more competitive bid review during the budget process.
What happens next: staff will post the planning commission vacancy and continue routine procurement oversight; the vendor list amendments were implemented as approved.
