Weston School District staff told the Safety & Security Committee on Dec. 9 that the district’s anonymous reporting system, provided by Sandy Hook Promise, has been live for several weeks and is already generating tips from students and parents.
Dan DeVito said the system is accessible via icons on the district and school web pages, has signage in buildings, and that staff and students have received training. He said the platform connects to Sandy Hook Promise’s nationally accredited crisis center, which engages tipsters in a dialogue to gather more information and then routes actionable life‑safety tips to Weston Police dispatch.
"It is functioning. We have been getting reports," Dan said, adding that the service allows uploads (screenshots or photos) and that district staff can view conversations and screenshots through a front‑end interface for follow up. Staff said the platform is available 24/7; for life‑threatening tips, Sandy Hook Promise will contact dispatch immediately and also notify the district crisis team.
Committee members asked how tips are handled and who at the district receives them. Dan said building principals (named in the transcript as Jason and Drew for their buildings) and a central office crisis team are the primary contacts; teachers can view current hall passes and principals can run broader reports. Speakers said the system has already supported wellness checks routed to police.
District staff asked for continued monitoring of the platform’s use and outcomes, and for a process to summarize trends for the committee once more data accumulate. No formal policy changes were adopted at the meeting.
