The Sandusky City Commission approved multiple routine items on Dec. 8, including land‑bank sales, program amendments, contract extensions and consulting agreements, and moved several items from consent to the regular agenda.
On a motion to adopt under suspension of rules, commissioners authorized the city manager to accept a $500,000 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to replace lead and galvanized water lines. City staff said the award requires no local match and estimated the funds could cover the replacement and restoration of about 100 service lines. "There's no strings attached," a city staffer said while describing the award.
The commission also passed an ordinance authorizing the city manager to enter a contract with Great Lakes Demolition Company of Clyde, Ohio, for the Cleveland Road safety improvement project. Staff told commissioners the contractor could begin as soon as weather allows; one commissioner said the bid came in at about $3.7 million, down from an earlier $5 million estimate.
Other items approved included authorizing participation in internet sales collections for calendar year 2026, amendments to the Welcome Home Ohio program agreement, land reutilization and side‑lot disposition actions, and multiple consulting contracts. The commission set a public hearing on Jan. 12, 2026 for the 2026 budget appropriations.
Votes were recorded by roll call on multiple items; the motions described above were adopted with the support of the commissioners present.
