Board approves routine business, ratifies volunteers and hears SOL results showing several schools 'distinguished'

The board ratified two prior phone votes to appoint volunteers: Valerie Bailey for indoor track and Didi Looney for girls basketball at Grundy. The Looney appointment drew one abstention during the roll call. The board also approved a substitute volunteer and coaches list that was included in meeting materials.
District administrators reported a November enrollment of 2,175 students, a net loss of three students (one to homeschooling, two out of county), and a homeschooling count of 70; staff said some students are scheduled to return after the Christmas break.
Board members approved senior trip and prom dates as listed in the packet but asked staff to correct a typographical error that appeared in the prom-date paperwork. The board completed the second reading of the district's food service policy and accepted the proposed budget timeline and calendar for the upcoming year as presented.
During the SOL report, a district administrator said the state released results on the ninth and that Council High School, Grundy High School, and Hurley High School received formal letters from the state department recognizing them as "distinguished." Hurley Elementary and Twin Valley Elementary were described as "on track," while Riverview ElementaryMiddle was identified as needing intensive support in one area and will receive state assistance for that area.
The board accepted a donation of a sign from Legacy Bank for Hurley Elementary Middle School and set next month's meeting for the 7th. The meeting adjourned after the scheduled business was completed.
