Ravenna Board spotlights staff and students with 'Face of a Raven' awards

The Ravenna School District Board of Education used part of its Dec. 16 meeting to present its monthly "Face of a Raven" recognitions to staff, students and a community volunteer.

Community volunteer Dan Edwards was singled out for more than 30 years of service operating the football clock and supporting athletics. Staff honorees included Kendra Fasching, the district’s director of curriculum and instruction, who was praised for "jumping right in," supporting teachers, providing interventions, training staff, and producing weekly communications. The board also recognized a head custodian described in the meeting as the first female head custodian in the district and Alexis Machock, an intervention specialist at Williard Elementary School, for adaptability and strong student support.

Students honored were Ivy Smith (preschool), Brooklyn Wiley (Williard kindergarten), Mari Vasquez (West Main, third grade), Jeremiah Streeter (middle school, grade 6) and Matthew Cooper (Ravenna High School sophomore). Board members thanked parents, relatives, and staff who attended, noting the program would pause briefly for photographs in the commons area before the meeting resumed.

The board called these recognitions an opportunity to publicly thank individuals who contribute to the district’s schools and culture.
