The Village of Riverwoods board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution implementing the Village Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, with trustees and staff describing the plan as a living framework that will be refined over time.
Trustee Jamieson said she supports adopting the plan but raised concerns about items that could require code changes and unclear incentives. "I am in favor of it. I will vote yes for it. But, I'm just concerned about some of the items in there," she said, adding that code amendments and incentive programs could demand more staff time and technical expertise.
Trustee Smith and others emphasized the plan’s collaborative origins and the need for a sustainability coordinator to manage implementation. "The sustainability coordinator... is gonna be key to the success of this," the trustee said, noting the board had set aside budget funding. Meeting comments referenced a roughly $30,000 line for 2025 and an approximate $50,000–$54,000 allocation for the following year to cover the coordinator and related infrastructure projects.
Board members discussed the absence of complete baselines for some metrics; staff and trustees said an incoming sustainability coordinator and volunteers would help establish measurable baselines and short-term priorities drawn from the plan’s identified top objectives.
Trustees voted to adopt the resolution and directed staff to continue implementation planning, community education and periodic review of the plan’s priorities and metrics.
