The Oak Harbor City Council authorized the mayor to sign an employment agreement with Stacy Prashner for the position of Community Development Director at the Dec. 2 meeting. Human Resources Director Emma House reviewed the recruitment, noting 56 candidates and a reclassification of the post from Development Services Director to Community Development Director. Prashner (who previously served as Community Development Director for Mount Vernon and holds anthropology degrees and AICP certification) told council she was attracted by the city's waterfront redevelopment work and expected to begin on Dec. 12.
Council members asked about priorities and areas where Prashner could make an immediate contribution; she said a periodic update to the comprehensive plan and waterfront/downtown redevelopment were areas where her experience could be helpful. Councilmember Wiesner and others welcomed Prashner; the motion to authorize the mayor to sign the employment agreement was moved by Councilmember Wiesner, seconded and approved unanimously by council vote.
Next steps: Stacy Prashner is scheduled to begin employment on Dec. 12 and attend a directors' retreat the following week.
