Board committee approves school improvement plans for low-performing schools

The Academic Services committee approved the Nash County Public Schools school improvement plans for the 2025–26 year for schools designated as low performing or targeted for support.
Miss Dancy Smith presented the plans and the statutory requirements: a school designated as low performing has earned a D or F performance grade and did not meet growth; local boards must submit their final plans to the State Board within five days of local approval. Smith said the plans had been posted for a 30‑day public review period and that staff had collected both positive and critical feedback online.
Committee members moved and seconded the superintendent’s request to approve the plans; the committee voted by voice and the motion carried. Smith said staff will upload the approved plans to the NCSTAR portal and submit them to the State Board by the district’s internal target (December 6).
Next steps: approved plans will be submitted to the State Board of Education through the NCSTAR portal and staff will work with state reviewers on any requested modifications; federal designation funding for identified schools will follow the state process.
