The Solanco School District board completed its reorganization and several appointments during the Dec. 1 meeting, swearing in new directors and conducting officer elections.
Judge Mankin conducted the swearing-in ceremony for incoming directors at the start of the meeting. After roll call and opening formalities, the board opened nominations. Chip Rootin was nominated and approved as temporary president. Glenn (nominator) moved to nominate Brian Foster for president; the motion and second carried. Justin Weimer was nominated and approved for vice president. The board also approved Jane Austell as the IU 13 board representative.
The board reappointed the law firm Saxon and Stump as district solicitor and adopted the 2026 meeting calendar with a change to a 7:00 p.m. start time for January meetings. Later in the meeting the board voted to appoint Sandra D. Smart as board secretary for a four-year term beginning July 2025 and ending June 30, 2029.
Each nomination and appointment was moved, seconded and approved on the record with voice votes. The presiding officer noted no executive session was required and adjourned the reorganization portion before proceeding to the regular agenda.
