The Lincoln City Council voted Dec. 1 to amend a street-closure request for the city's annual Christmas parade, moving the event from Dec. 4 to Dec. 11. The council approved the amended consent-agenda item by roll call after members said several participants had canceled because of a forecast of single-digit temperatures.
The presiding official told the council organizers would keep Santa's scheduled appearance: "We're going to still do the Santa appearance on Thursday at 06:30PM at the depot. Santa will arrive here at City Hall, and then he will be escorted down to the depot by the fire department." The amendment to change the parade date was moved, seconded and carried by roll call.
City staff said they had begun updating event materials and that a press release had already been published to notify residents of the date change. The council directed staff to update the city's online materials and public notices to reflect the new parade date.
The amended street-closure request will allow the same route and timing originally proposed, with Dec. 11 as the only change. No formal policy changes beyond the date amendment were made during the meeting.
