Owners of 407 Lincoln Road received Historic Preservation Board approval Dec. 16 to install slim LED linear fixtures to highlight the building's vertical architectural elements. The applicant said the fixtures are small (roughly 0.5 by 0.5 inches), black-mounted linear LEDs and will be dimmable.
Board members and staff specified conditions to limit nighttime impacts: the fixtures must be dimmable, use a warmer color temperature near 3,000 kelvin (board requested 2,700–3,000K as preferred), reduce intensity after 10 p.m. and turn off after midnight per the draft order. One board member asked the applicant to study adding a light in the inner corner of the building's feature to improve visibility of the entrance to Lincoln Road.
The board voted to approve the certificate of appropriateness with the staff conditions and the requested study of additional corner lighting. Supporters (including MDPL) praised restoration work and the reactivation of the building’s rooftop clock.
