The Town of Buckfield Select Board on Nov. 18 approved a motion to proceed with remounting ambulance 4‑5‑1 after hearing an updated vendor estimate that raised the chassis cost to $53,126.
The remount discussion began when Speaker 3 said the vendor (Sugarloaf) provided a corrected estimate, noting the chassis year listed as 2025 should have been 2026 and the price rose from $49,820 to $53,126. Speaker 3 said the board had previously authorized up to $60,000 for this project and that the revised figure remains within that authorization.
Speaker 3 also summarized terms of a proposed loaner agreement: “any maintenance or repairs required during the term of this loaner agreement shall be paid for by the authorized users up to an aggregate limit of $500. Sugarloaf will be responsible for all repairs and maintenance in excess of the $500 limit unless caused by negligence of the authorized user.” The board discussed insurance and that the vehicle would be insured for up to $55,000 while in town custody.
After discussing reserves and projected billing revenue, Speaker 2 moved to proceed with the remount and the motion passed by voice vote. The board indicated the remount keeps the town on track to replace or remount future units when needed.
The board did not record a roll‑call vote or individual tallies in the meeting minutes; the approval was by voice vote.
