SOLEDAD, Calif. — At the Nov. 20 Planning Commission meeting, Community and Economic Development staff updated the commission on several development and housing initiatives underway in Soledad.
Staff said they plan to submit an application to the Economic Development Administration for funding to support a Container Village project and will apply to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for a planning grant when the application window opens. A tiny village project, referred to as Sandero, was described as under construction with modular units being assembled; staff said Sandero has housed 11 participants so far and a grand opening is expected in mid‑December.
On commercial development, staff reported a building permit was issued for a Wingstop restaurant in the shopping center adjacent to Round Table and that an applicant is moving forward on a Holiday Inn hotel proposal (staff are reviewing applicant responses to earlier comments). Staff also said Almond Acres is expected to return to Planning Commission in early January for further consideration.
The staff presentation framed these items as part of ongoing economic and housing development efforts and noted outreach and social media promotion tied to a holiday 'shop local' campaign.
