Council OKs first reading for CARES-funded transit signage upgrade

Transit staff explained the city previously used CARES grant money to procure five cutaway buses and a 29-foot Gillig bus and to upgrade CAD/AVL systems; the remaining CARES funds now proposed for appropriation would pay in full for replacement exterior signage hardware to keep the fleet consistent. A staff presenter said the signs had reached end-of-life and replacing them would eliminate paper signs in vehicle windows and reduce incorrect information displayed to riders.
Because the appropriation would be fully funded by CARES grant proceeds, staff emphasized no local tax dollars would be required. Council passed first reading by voice vote (recorded 8–0).
Next steps: The ordinance will return for subsequent readings and final adoption under normal council procedure.
