Mister Hudson presented the recommendation and said the purchase would bring about 40% of staff devices to an age of one year or less; he noted many staff devices are five years old or older and that the most common complaint is poor battery life. "With this purchase, this would allow 40% of our staff members to have a device that is one year old or less," Hudson said.
Hudson explained the district had a budget allocation of roughly $60,000 for staff devices this year, had previously spent about $20,000, and the remaining $36,594 was used to maximize the quantity purchased within available funds. A trustee asked why the district selected 57 units; Hudson said the number reflected maximizing the available budget.
A motion to approve the purchase passed by board vote; the meeting transcript records the motion and the chair announced the motion carried. District staff said the purchase was competitively bid through purchasing cooperatives and funds were already budgeted for the current fiscal year.
