Venus ISD board approves Core Construction as construction manager for Phase 1 of new high school

Gary Annison, executive vice president with Core Construction, presented the firm’s qualifications and said the company tailored its proposal to Venus ISD’s needs. “We know how exciting of a time it is,” Annison said, adding that Core is ready to engage in preconstruction and work with district leadership.
Board member Amber made the motion to approve Core as the CMAR, and Kirby seconded. The board president called for the vote and announced the motion carries.
The approval authorizes district staff to negotiate and sign a contract with the selected firm and to involve the CMAR in preconstruction planning. During the presentation board members asked about scheduling and performance guarantees; Annison said completion timelines and liquidated-damage provisions are standard items to include in the contract.
The board previously passed a bond to fund the campus project; selecting a CMAR is a key step toward moving from planning into procurement and construction. District staff said the firm will participate in biweekly preconstruction meetings once the contract is executed.
The district did not provide a roll-call tally in the meeting transcript; the chair announced the motion carried after the voice vote. The board expects to return to contract specifics in future meetings as negotiations proceed.
