Student representatives highlight homecoming, attendance and community events; district honors three 'Extra Mile' employees

Parkside High School representative Joshua Strickland highlighted attendance recognition programs, a food basket distribution on Oct. 3, a canned‑food drive, CTE hands‑on work, athletics accomplishments and the school’s 50th anniversary. "It's the fiftieth anniversary of Parkside High School," Joshua said as part of his report.
Isabella Trood (James and Bennett High) and Samantha Yopes (Ardela High) described homecoming festivities, spirit weeks, pep rallies, and athletic recognitions — including a softball team with a 3.9 GPA recognized nationally for academic performance — and upcoming fundraising and family events. Shiraz Ahmed (Y High) summarized a community car show with more than 100 attendees, student team summits on cultural and bullying topics, tutoring and after‑school offerings, and the launch of an esports team.
During the superintendent’s report, the board presented three 'Extra Mile' awards. Tracy Sailor (standing in for Paul Butler) recognized Andy DiPrima, a social worker at Westside Primary, for cross‑school counseling support during staffing transitions; Mary Ludeman, food service manager at North Salisbury Elementary, for operational leadership in food service; and Phil Portier from central office for stepping into supervisory duties and supporting elementary social studies professional development.
Board members praised the student updates and staff recognitions and encouraged continued family and community engagement. The meeting proceeded to routine business following these presentations.
