Superintendent highlights retirees, strategic plan and two July grant awards

Superintendent Dr. Stauffer opened the meeting by recognizing FY25 retirees and announcing an updated district strategic plan titled "Our Plan for Success," which the district will make available on its website for staff, students and the community.
In the grant report that followed, Dr. Reger said July brought two awards totaling "a little over $125,000": approximately $73,000 from the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance to support a summer youth employment program serving 20 students, and more than $52,000 from the Maryland State Department of Education to strengthen support for teachers pursuing national board certification. Dr. Reger said strategies will include training current national board–certified teachers to mentor candidates and hosting workshops focused on preparation strategies.
The district submitted six additional grant applications in July totaling just over $500,000 and will update the board on progress at a future work session. When a board member asked about the district's current MSDE risk-assessment rating, Dr. Reger said she did not have that information on hand and would check with Ms. Jones and follow up.
