Board approves vendor prequalifications, clean audit, CMP submission and other consent items

The Wicomico County Board of Education approved multiple routine and governance actions during its monthly meeting.
Board members approved the consent docket (items 5.1–5.8) covering personnel matters, seven reviewed policies, authorization of negotiation teams for 2025–26, and several cooperative contracts procured through OMNIA Partners, including School Specialty LLC, Gopher Sports LLC, Fastenal Company, BSN Sports LLC and Really Good Stuff LLC.
Dr. Reger presented a professional services selection procedure for architects, engineers and construction managers. Fifteen firms responded to the solicitation; an evaluation committee ranked submissions and the board approved prequalifying the recommended firms for projects valued under $5 million per single project.
On financial oversight, the board audit committee reported that external auditors issued an unmodified (clean) opinion and that the audit of internal controls reported no deficiencies. "We received an unmodified opinion from the auditors, and the audit report on internal controls reported no deficiencies," Dr. Reger said. The board then approved the audit reports and the annual comprehensive financial report.
Dr. Reger also explained that, per COMAR, the district must submit its Comprehensive Maintenance Plan to the Interagency Commission on School Construction by Oct. 15; the board approved the CMP, which the presentation said covers maintenance plans for facilities serving more than 15,000 students.
Separately, the board voted to contribute $2,000 to the Mardella softball team toward state championship rings after noting the team and community had raised most of the funds. The board also voted to rescind a local "home instruction by parents" policy because the requirements are already specified in COMAR; Dr. Reger clarified that rescinding the policy does not end home instruction and directed families to the student and family services department for details.
All above actions were approved by roll call with aye votes recorded by Mr. Palmer, Miss Hazel, Mr. Plots, Miss Beecham, Mr. Brown and Chair Malone. The board listed no no‑votes or abstentions on the recorded actions.
