Wicomico County board adopts two secondary science instructional programs

The Wicomico County Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt two new secondary science instructional resources, Cognigy and Inquisitive, following presentations from district staff.
Superintendent Dr. Stauffer turned the meeting over to Dr. Reger, who presented results from pilot implementations and said the materials "will support our ongoing efforts to enhance curriculum alignment, provide engaging interactive content, and strengthen student mastery of core science standards." The board moved and approved adoption of Cognigy (item 6.2) and later approved Inquisitive as a supplemental resource (item 6.3). Roll-call votes for both motions were recorded as aye by Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Hazel, Mr. Platts, Mrs. Beecham, Mr. Brown, Dr. Ennis and the chair.
Board members discussed the prior pilot and readiness to implement the programs across secondary schools; no amendments or conditions to the approvals were recorded. Dr. Reger noted the district had presented pilot results at the June work session and recommended both resources proceed to final adoption.
The approvals are procedural steps in the district's curriculum review process; staff will proceed with procurement and classroom integration consistent with district schedules and professional development plans.
