Board to post decision on challenged library book in June as policy review continues

Legal counsel and staff said the district is revising both policy and procedure language to clarify timelines, the relationship between policy and the implementing procedure, and the standards used for library-materials review. Counsel said draft revisions are close but will go back out for public comment before final board action.
Trustees discussed opt-out and opt-in options (noting a legal difference between curriculum and library materials), how parents access lists of library holdings, whether parents can see a child’s checkout history, and whether procedural details should be elevated into policy. Several trustees asked administration to make opt-out processes and library inventories more visible to families.
Administration said the first reconsideration will be finalized in June and that any broader procedural refinements learned from the review will be proposed for public comment and board consideration.
