Commission approves application for state cybersecurity grant to upgrade county systems

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. — The Sullivan County Commission voted to apply for and, if awarded, appropriate $35,000 from the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration's state and local cybersecurity program, authorizing the required local match.
Sponsor Commissioner Means said the funding would be used to upgrade operating systems and protect health‑department networks from ransomware, malware and unauthorized access, and to modernize essential infrastructure for secure data storage and authorized access. Means explained that the county must spend eligible expenses up front and then submit documentation for reimbursement.
During discussion Commissioner Glover asked about reimbursement requirements; Means confirmed the county would submit documentation to be reimbursed. Commissioner Means also asked to be added as cosponsor for the resolution. The board adopted the item; the clerk recorded the necessary majority and item 8 was adopted.
Next steps: staff to prepare and submit the application and budget paperwork to support reimbursement if the grant is awarded.
