SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. — The commission opened the meeting with a proclamation honoring Oasis of Kingsport for community service and a longer presentation on Rocky Mount, a 50‑acre historic site that offers living-history programming and outreach to schoolchildren.
Oasis representatives described their work serving women in the community, including classes and support services for people experiencing homelessness. "The Oasis of Kingsport has been serving the women of our community since 2014," a representative said, describing programs to build skills and self-sufficiency.
Representatives with Rocky Mount and the Tennessee Historic Commission detailed the site’s history and programming, noting about 25,000 annual visitors and a substantial digital reach. They said the state has submitted a request for a $12,000,000 visitor center upgrade expected to occur in 2027 and outlined plans for festivals, walking trails and a 250th‑anniversary celebration. Rocky Mount representatives also highlighted volunteer and donor support used to acquire neighboring farmland and restore structures that add to the site’s educational mission.
Commissioners thanked presenters and acknowledged Rocky Mount’s role in local heritage tourism.
