SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. — Commissioners discussed a resolution to designate part of the former Blountville (Blauxville) Elementary School campus as space for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Phil Ketron of Build A Better Bluffel and sponsor Commissioner Maines described the incubator concept as a community resource that could anchor a business‑support incubator without requesting county funds. Supporters said the resolution reserves space while program details are worked out.
Several commissioners voiced concerns about day‑to‑day oversight, security on the school campus and who would manage scheduling and equipment. Commissioner Glover asked who would handle reservations and maintenance; Commissioner King raised concerns about being listed as a cosponsor without consent. The sponsor said operational guidelines would fall under the mayor's office and agreed the item would be moved to first reading to allow staff and commissioners to develop implementation details.
The commission placed the resolution on first reading to allow additional review and a work session before final action.
