BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. — At its Nov. 20 meeting the Sullivan County Commission filled two local vacancies by recorded votes.
Robert Earhart was nominated and, after a roll-call tally, was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals. The clerk read the roll call and the chair announced that Earhart received the necessary majority for appointment.
The commission also addressed a vacancy in District 2 resulting from the resignation of Matt Slagle. Commissioner Acord nominated Dr. Barry Hopper; the nomination was seconded and, following the recorded vote, the commission appointed Hopper to fill the seat through Aug. 31, 2026. Clerk Jacobs administered the oath; Hopper pledged to perform the duties of the office and to support the constitutions of Tennessee and the United States.
Following the oath, the chair noted the commission returned to full membership and that future votes will require the restored quorum threshold.
