County facilities team signs contract to fix kitchen heating regulator and will add speed-limit signs near Neighbors campus

Facilities staff told the Dec. 18 Dunn County Neighbors committee that the kitchen has experienced heat failures when outdoor temperatures drop to near 0°F because the rooftop gas regulator was undersized and an interior regulator was installed outdoors. A contractor said the setup was effectively "jerry rigged," with pressures set too high and two units sharing a single regulator.
Facilities staff said they signed a contract to replace the regulator with two exterior regulators and expect that to resolve the heat-related outages. A staff member said the fix should end the overnight monitoring currently required when temperatures fall low.
On broader safety, Carmen said staff had noticed increased fast driving on county-maintained roads near the facility, specifically Forbes and Howison roads, and that the county ordered speed-limit signs to be installed; some signs will go in now and others in spring when the ground thaws.
Facilities leaders also reported lean staffing due to a temporary medical leave and a recent two-week absence, but praised cross-training between the government center and the Neighbors facility for helping maintain services during snow events.
