Quinn recounted a long case in which retroactive benefits — the accrued payment owed to a veteran’s family — are expected to exceed $100,000. That matter involved sustained advocacy, including work with Senator Baldwin’s office, and Quinn said the outcome will materially affect the claimant family when the funds arrive.
The veterans-service report also noted national concerns: Quinn said media reports indicated the VA plans staff reductions in health care roles and that the office anticipates some local impact on appointment wait times. Quinn also warned about organizations charging veterans to file original claims — practices he described as illegal — and urged continued local education and vigilance.
The board thanked Quinn and asked staff to keep the board apprised of changes to VA access and any uptick in requests for assistance.
