County updates: Boyseville salt shed installation and structure inspection inventory

County staff said a contractor is scheduled to erect the Boyseville salt shed on Jan. 12; the structure will be covered 100% by DOT funding for the building. Staff also reported completion of an inventory and inspection of 80 county structures in the 6–20-foot category and noted towns/municipalities were handled separately by state contracts.

On the salt shed, staff said the contractor is scheduled to start erecting the structure on Jan. 12; the work includes steel members and a tarp assembly over the top. Pavement and interior site work will wait until spring. Speaker 2 said the building portion of the salt-shed project is 100% covered by DOT funding for that scope of work.
Staff also described the state-led inventory and inspection for structures between 6 and 20 feet. County staff completed inspections of county-owned structures in that size range (about 80 structures), while town and municipal structures were inspected through the state contract. The county’s inspections will likely continue on an every-other-year cycle, aligning with bridge inspection cycles pending DOT guidance.
Committee members asked whether the county could use the new salt shed for temporary equipment storage before paving; staff said equipment storage is possible but long-term floor and final paving will wait until spring when weather permits.
