Shawnee County Treasurer Susan Duffy asked the Board of County Commissioners to approve Contract C550-2025 on Dec. 29 to replace the county's current front‑counter vendor, CanPay, with PayIt. Duffy said PayIt will allow the treasurer's office to accept debit and credit magstripe, dip (chip and PIN), tap‑to‑pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and other mobile wallet options; the change also will add one station in the county clerk's office.
The board approved the contract by unanimous vote.
Duffy also provided updated tax‑collection figures: as of Oct. 31, about 6% of 2024 parcels (roughly 77,000 parcels) remained unpaid between first and second payments, totaling about $7.5 million; as of the Dec. 22 close of business (the last date to pay without penalty on the first installment due date), the outstanding first‑installment balance was about $33.5 million. For the May 11 payment (the second installment), she said the outstanding balance is about $136.7 million, representing roughly 25% of parcels — figures she said are in line with recent years.
Duffy noted that the unpaid dollar amounts include all taxing entities (cities, townships, school districts and other jurisdictions) and that the treasurer's annex and courthouse offices will be closed on Wednesday for year‑end processing. She encouraged residents to make payments before the closures.
