District Clerk Margaret Littleton told the court a Dec. 18 public hearing and an order by the 81st and 218th judicial district judges set new annual salaries to take effect Jan. 1, 2026.

The order sets the county auditor salary at $100,000. Assistant county auditor salaries were listed at $62,500 (first assistant) and $48,500 (second assistant), with third and fourth assistant auditors also at $48,500. Littleton said the orders were issued “pursuant to Texas civil statutes” and provided the signed orders to the court.

Littleton also reported two identical orders for the district court reporters for the 81st and 218th districts. Each district court reporter’s annual salary is set at $125,000; Atascosa County’s portion of each reporter’s salary was listed as $44,212.50, effective Jan. 1, 2026.

Commissioner Gillespie moved to accept the auditor order; Commissioner Bowen seconded and the court approved the motion. The court approved the court-reporter orders in separate motions (one moved by Commissioner Gillespie and another moved by Commissioner Riley) and recorded the motions as carried.

The orders were described to the court as taking effect 01/01/2026 and remaining “at the pleasure of the district judges” who issued them. The district clerk provided original signed orders to county staff for the record.

The commissioners did not debate the statutory authority in detail at the meeting; the district clerk summarized that the salary-setting authority lay with the district judges as provided by state law.
