Board continues appeal hearing for West Main Compost facility to Nov. 18

The Board opened a public hearing on the appeal of a planning commission denial for a proposed composting facility (use-permit appeal 2021-0012, West Main Compost) and, at staff recommendation, agreed to continue the hearing to Nov. 18 to allow the applicant to complete outreach and address concerns raised by the community.
Angela Freitas, the county planning director, said the item was originally scheduled for Aug. 5 and had been continued at the applicant’s request; staff recommended another continuance to Nov. 18. One member of the public, Milt Treweiler, questioned why the project needed to be located on that agricultural parcel and asked how it would help farmers and the community; Freitas directed interested parties to the planning-commission staff report for detailed findings.
A supervisor moved to continue the hearing to Nov. 18; the motion passed unanimously. The Board did not resolve the underlying appeal at this meeting and will hear the item again on the Nov. 18 agenda unless the applicant withdraws the request.
