Lassen County sheriff: multiagency operation removed 13,496 marijuana plants, recovered firearms and unpermitted structures

Sheriff John McGarvey briefed the board on a multiagency cannabis eradication operation in northern Lassen County, describing the work as a coordinated effort with the Department of Justice, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), environmental health, code enforcement, California Highway Patrol and EPIC (Eradication Prevention of Illicit Cannabis).
"We executed several search warrants on private property grows," he said, listing results: "13,496 marijuana plants, 1,929 counts of processed marijuana, recovered 5 firearms ... and approximately 31 unpermitted structures." He said all sites were on private parcels and that no arrests were made because suspects fled prior to arrival; he described the operation as "successful" but only a "scratch at the surface." He estimated the processed marijuana had an approximate street value of $1,400,000.
Board members thanked law enforcement and public-works staff who assisted (operation included demolition of unpermitted structures). The sheriff said the county plans further coordinated operations with EPIC and DOJ next year and noted coordination with the district attorney regarding targeted charges when arrests occur.
