Clerk reports election turnout so far; county to stop printed board packets in January

Sarah Howell, assistant county clerk-recorder, briefed the board on election preparations and said that as of the previous day the county had 15,265 registered voters and 3,222 ballots returned (about 21%). Howell said signature processing is complete and staff will begin opening and running ballots at the e-minus-10 day mark but will not tally or release results until 8 p.m. on election night. She reminded the board that conditional voter registration continues after the close of registration and that conditional ballots are processed after Election Day to verify voters were not already counted elsewhere.
Howell also asked supervisors to refer constituents with election questions to the clerk's office rather than trying to answer votes-related inquiries themselves. She reported another administrative change: beginning 01/21/2026, the clerk of the board's office will stop distributing printed board packets to supervisors and will rely on the electronic agenda packet. Staff offered individualized IT support if supervisors have difficulty using the new electronic materials.
Board members acknowledged the change and asked that the discontinuation of printed packets be placed on a future agenda for discussion of accommodations or transitional support.
