Lee County DOT says Rismond Avenue pedestrian bridge installation to finish mid-January

Abelino Cancel, senior engineer with Lee County Department of Transportation, said the county has installed the reconstructed Rismond Avenue pedestrian bridge and expects the project to be completed in mid-January.
Cancel said the original bridge was destroyed in 2017 by Hurricane Irma and the replacement was delivered “in 2 segments” to the north side of the canal and assembled on site. He said the structure was installed using a crane and that “the bridge weight is approximately 18 tons.”
The engineer described pre-lift coordination that included the designer, inspectors, county staff and the contractor. Cancel said the team held a pre-lift meeting on site and performed a mock run to verify turns and clearances — steps taken because the lift involved an 18-ton steel structure over a water body near power lines.
Cancel listed the remaining work as placing concrete footings for sidewalks, finalizing Americans with Disabilities Act ramps and restoring adjacent areas. He said these tasks are the final steps before the project reaches an expected mid-January completion date.
