Flagler County honors firefighters for two lifesaving rescues on Lehigh Trail and at Publix

Flagler County formally recognized several Flagler County Fire Rescue members on Monday for lifesaving responses earlier this year.
Chief Michael Tucker asked the commission to honor rescue supervisor Beau Krutov and paramedic firefighter Dominic Mercurio for a Lehigh Trail incident where crew members ran roughly a half‑mile with a stretcher to reach a bicyclist and performed resuscitative care that achieved return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). Tucker said the patient was transported and had a successful outcome as last reported.
Chief Tucker also recognized Lieutenant Jake Gonzales and Engine 16 staff for a separate call to a Publix where bystander AED use and rapid crew care produced ROSC. Tucker emphasized the role of citizen bystander's CPR and AED use in both cases and told the board those interventions "made a difference in both of these situations." The commission and audience applauded the crews and encouraged expanded AED placement near trails and public facilities.
What’s next: commissioners asked staff to consider AED placement strategy for trailheads and public parks in the coming year.
