The Baker County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 2 approved multiple procurement and contract items spanning roadwork, emergency apparatus and boat-ramp projects.
A motion to authorize purchase of pipe for the Autorun subdivision roadway from Fortalein passed after staff said funds were received and pipe ordered to lock in price. The board also approved a previously budgeted purchase of a $119,000 service truck for Baker County Fire and Rescue; staff said the vehicle came in under the original ~$130,000 budget estimate. One commissioner asked staff to provide a multi-year fleet-replacement plan showing ages, mileage and projected replacement timing for light vehicles and apparatus.
The board approved contract amendments for the Saint Mary's Cove boat-ramp relocation projects. Staff described an amendment to extend an FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) reimbursement contract through June 30, 2028 so grant reimbursement eligibility is preserved while FEMA processes the ramp relocation. A separate phase-2 amendment removes a lighting design package at FWC's request; staff said phase 2 (restroom design) is ready to close out but lacks construction funding.
Separately, staff presented a state appropriations agreement for a pump truck: a $900,000 state award with a $50,000 county match (total purchase price $950,000). The state requires procurement activity (a purchase order to a manufacturer) to initiate the funding agreement, and the board approved the authorization and funding agreement.
Commissioners asked staff to track construction-bid strategies for FDOT-funded projects (base bids versus options), and to coordinate with county and state partners about FEMA funding delays and reimbursement timing. No contracts were rejected; all presented motions passed by voice vote.
