Family Crisis Centers asks Crawford County for $15,000 to support domestic violence survivors

Ethehers told the board Family Crisis Centers serves 31 counties in western Iowa, answering crisis lines and delivering in-person services. "Our budget is about 3,750,000.00," she said, and described the agency's revenue mix as "65% of that is state and federal funding, 31% is charitable giving and the other 5 percent, we get revenue from our thrift store." She said the thrift-store revenue alone covers three advocate salaries.
Bianca, identified in the presentation as the service manager for the domestic violence program, described a recent case in which staff helped a single mother of five secure temporary hotel shelter, first-month rent and deposit and connections to counseling and community resources. "We were able to help her, do a housing search, able to connect her to her local food pantry," Bianca said, adding that the client has been violence-free for six months and continues to check in with an advocate.
Presenters said the agency provides crisis-line response, housing assistance, legal aid navigation for protection orders and limited material supports such as security cameras. The board asked questions about local office coverage; presenters said a local advocate (identified in the transcript as Jill) is in Crawford County five days a week and additional advocates cover the region from nearby offices.
Ethehers concluded the presentation by restating the request: "We are asking for $15,000 which that's what we've asked for in the past." Supervisors thanked the presenters and asked clerical and logistical questions. The transcript contains no recorded vote or formal action on the request.
