Chickasaw County supervisors abate taxes on four mobile homes, set Dec. 15 budget hearing and approve part-time paramedic hire

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 1 approved Resolution 12-1-25-54, declaring it administratively impractical to pursue county tax collection on four mobile homes now owned by PR Ventures and directing the treasurer to strike the county tax obligations from the tax books. The board approved the resolution by roll call after staff described title and tax-sale issues connected to the units.
According to the materials presented to the board, the county will abate approximately $1,101 in county tax obligations related to the four mobile homes; PR Ventures was asked to pay about $13.08 to satisfy amounts owed to tax-sale certificate holders. An unidentified county staff member described the homes as movable personal property that had been moved or destroyed and said the proposed exchange (payment to certificate holders and county abatement) should clear title and outstanding tax issues.
The board also handled routine financial business. Members approved minutes from the Nov. 24 meeting, payroll claims dated Nov. 28, prior bill claims of approximately $1,001.20, and current claims due today totaling $130,001.64 after the usual motions and voice votes.
On capital finance, staff described bond- and TIF-related numbers tied to project financing and asked the supervisors to set a public hearing for Budget Amendment No. 2 for fiscal year 2025–26. The board moved and voted to set a public hearing for Dec. 15 and directed staff to publish notice in local papers; the packet number staff said they'd certify for auditors was $697,064 (roughly $600,000 of bond proceeds, $73,000 interest and about $24,000 in upfront costs).
On personnel action, the board approved hiring Brady Norman as a part-time paramedic in the EMS department at a wage of $27 per hour, effective Dec. 1. EMS Director Joel Knutson disclosed a family relation to Norman and declared he would not vote on that item; the hiring motion passed with the recorded roll-call results showing four affirmative votes and the chair noting the conflict.
Other business included an engineer’s update on winter operations and upcoming on-site bidder meetings for a proposed engineer’s office building, and staff reports on courthouse electrical panel specifications that will be advertised for local contractors when ready.
The board adjourned after routine committee updates and scheduling items.
