Crawford County to assume direct unemployment accounting after ISAC pool ends Jan. 1, 2026

Staff reported a current net balance in the ISAC pool for Crawford County of roughly $109,000 and said the county should receive an initial distribution of about half that amount, with the remainder held to pay outstanding claims covered while ISAC administered the pool. County officials said the recovered funds would be sufficient to cover at least the first year of expected unemployment payments and that staff plan to adopt a reimbursable status (pay claims as they occur rather than a contributory quarterly fee) for the first calendar year while monitoring claims activity.
Why it matters: The administrative change requires the county to establish internal procedures for quarterly payments, claims management and the staff roles that will handle unemployment tasks. Staff said training and transition support from ISAC and IowaWORKS are planned for December and January.
Board response: Supervisors received the update and asked clarifying questions; staff said they would sign the necessary enrollment paperwork and set up the county fund and administrative roles. No formal vote was recorded.
