Several non-action items dominated supervisor reports on Dec. 9. County and regional updates included:
- Region 12: The board reviewed transit and program metrics reported by Region 12 staff, praised local leadership and noted the executive director evaluation was completed.
- WESCO services: Supervisors said changes in Medicaid and program rules have reduced higher-tier client counts, pressuring revenues. They discussed outreach to local schools to increase awareness of WESCO services and earlier interventions for clients.
- Building fees and abatements: Paul and others observed building-permit fees have not been updated since the 2000s; supervisors asked staff to check zoning and possible fee adjustments. The board also discussed House File 718 and its new 'school-only' tax portion for some abatements.
- GIS capacity: Supervisors considered creating or funding a GIS coordinator position, options to contract services (Becker/Schneider Corp), and how to fund and house a coordinator (assessor vs. separate department).
Those discussion items did not produce formal board action at this meeting; staff were asked to explore options and return with more information.
