County hears updates on WESCO services, Stepping Stones and bridge schedules

The Crawford County Board received a cluster of informational updates Wednesday on social services and infrastructure plans.
WESCO reported it is piloting a smart-living program in two homes next week through a contract with 1Vision and hopes to host a Delta Dental mobile clinic in Denison for roughly four days in December; the mobile clinic will prioritize WESCO clients and then schedule community members as capacity allows. Stepping Stones told the board it served 193 individuals in September and described several client transitions to stable housing and short-term stays addressing homelessness.
On infrastructure, county engineering staff said the new bridge structure is complete and crews are finishing approach slabs, erosion control and temporary seeding with permanent seeding planned next year. Board members discussed coordination with a separate Highway 59 railroad-bridge project, potential detour routes via U.S. 141/59, and timing constraints: the county hopes construction will reach bid/let stages in 2026 and construction in 2027–2028 but noted possible delays if the railroad or other projects overlap.
Supervisors also discussed traffic impacts, the need for railroad flagging and contractor training for rail-right-of-way work, and trade-offs such as sacrificial surfacing for safety during heavy summer traffic.
