Marshall County approved a memorandum of understanding with MPPM Local 2003/IUPAT affecting Secondary Roads staffing and classifications.
Paul Guilen, county engineer, told the board the MOU covers three main changes: allowing engineering technicians to adopt the same 4x10 summer schedule used by shop crews so office coverage matches crew hours; correcting pay so sign crew 2 equals truck driver 3 to avoid promotions that reduce pay; and renaming sign crew 4 to sign crew 3 (a cleanup because the prior agreement skipped a level). "This just fixes that and takes the sign crew 2 pay to be equal to truck driver 3," Guilen said. He added that the changes were approved by the union and signed by its business agent.
The board moved and seconded the item, asked clarifying questions about sign-crew duties, and carried the motion to approve and to authorize the vice chair to sign the MOU.
The changes are administrative and intended to align pay and schedules across shop and field crews and to reduce classification anomalies that discouraged internal promotions.
