Aging True seeks $250,000 legislative support and volunteer pilot to expand senior meal delivery in Clay County

Sam, identified in the presentation as the lead for Aging True's Clay County operations, told the board the nonprofit runs four senior centers in Middleburg, Keystone Heights, Green Cove Springs and Orange Park and is working to expand meal delivery to homebound seniors.
"We operate the 4 senior centers in Middleburg, Keystone Heights, Green Cove Springs, and Orange Park, and there is a wait list of seniors that's approximately 400 that need additional meals," Sam said, and described routes the organization currently runs: three routes delivering about 75 meals daily and an average of roughly 50–65 meals per center per day when combined.
Aging True said its CEO, Teresa Barton, helped secure sponsorship of a legislative budget request for $250,000 to fund expanded meal delivery; the organization plans a volunteer-based pilot at the Green Cove Springs senior center as early as February to test moving five routes to volunteer delivery with a local coordinator scheduled weekdays 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Commissioners asked about background-screening, scheduling and capacity; Sam and partners said volunteers must complete screening and that the pilot will seek roughly 45–50 interested volunteers (based on past attrition rates about half of volunteers who express interest follow through). Commissioners and attendees suggested partnering with churches and existing nonprofits to recruit and coordinate volunteers.
Next steps: Aging True will continue stakeholder outreach, finalize the pilot plan and report back to staff and commissioners; any formal county role or matching support was not adopted at the meeting.
