Franklin proclaims retirement for longtime city official Vernon Girth

Mayor Ken Moore read a proclamation recounting Girth’s career, noting his prior work in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Vernon Hills, Illinois, his BA and MBA, and professional affiliations. Girth was recognized for leadership in community and economic development and for contributions to local projects ranging from historic battlefield preservation to everyday municipal matters.
Girth, joined by his wife Sherry, thanked colleagues and city staff, called his time serving the community one of the greatest privileges of his professional life and urged the board and staff to continue relying on the city’s expertise as Franklin grows. City staff and fellow officials praised Girth’s commitment, character and collaborative approach.
The board recognized Girth’s service with standing appreciation and best wishes for retirement; the proclamation observed his official retirement date as Dec. 9, 2025.
