Hardin County approves 4-mile resurfacing of D41 with 80% regional funding

The Hardin County Board of Supervisors approved final plans for the STP-S CO42(125)E42 resurfacing project on county Road D41 at its Oct. 29 meeting. The project covers about four miles from Highway 175 north to D35 and calls for placing 4 inches of asphalt over the existing pavement. Speaker 2 recommended approval, Speaker 1 moved to approve and Speaker 2 seconded; the motion carried after recorded ‘‘Aye’’ votes.

County staff told the board the route will be closed to through traffic during construction and that local traffic will be allowed access where feasible. About 80% of the project cost is covered by Region 6 funds, according to staff, and the board discussed tying a one-mile nearby T Avenue (Washington Street north of town) segment to the resurfacing contract to secure a better price; that tie-in would be billed to a different account.

Board members noted that portions of the road have a concrete base installed in the late 1960s and were patched with asphalt in the late 1990s; the plan is to place asphalt over those areas rather than remove the old concrete. No amendments to the final plans were proposed at the meeting.

The board approved the final plans and directed staff to proceed with the project schedule and contract preparation.
