The Winchester School Committee voted unanimously on Aug. 8 to accept Superintendent Dr. Frank Hackett's summative evaluation, concluding his third year and the start of his fourth in Winchester Public Schools.
The chair presented a consolidated evaluation noting Dr. Hackett's progress on the student-learning goal, professional-practice goal and district-improvement goals. Committee members highlighted work on the Lynch School renovation (on schedule and within budget for a planned fall 2025 reopening), a data-driven approach to budgeting and instruction, and steps taken to improve communications and district operations. "I appreciate the support. I appreciate the feedback," Hackett said, thanking committee members and central-office staff.
Committee comments emphasized Hackett's collaborative leadership, responsiveness to community concerns about early literacy, and use of external studies (UMass Donahue enrollment study) and new tools (Analytic View) to inform planning. The consolidated ratings discussed in the meeting included "proficient" for instructional leadership and overall performance and "exemplary" for management and operations in the committee's assessment of standards.
A motion to accept the evaluation was made, seconded and passed with a unanimous vote that included recently returned member Michelle Bergstrom.
The committee said it expects continued updates through the coming year and will consider staffing and budget implications of the district's priorities during the FY26 budget process.
