Board adopts Version 1 of 2026–27 school calendar after survey and student input

The board approved Version 1 of the 2026–27 school calendar at the Dec. 15 meeting following presentations of two draft calendars, survey results and student voice input.
Administrators presented Version 1 and Version 2 and summarized differences: Version 1 includes a one-day fall break (the day before Halloween), a traditional three-day Thanksgiving break and an extended Memorial Day weekend; Version 2 proposed a five-day Thanksgiving break (including a staff professional-development day) and other scheduling shifts. The administration said surveys sent separately to parents and staff showed Version 1 as the combined preference, and student voice feedback outlined pros and cons of both options.
Board members asked detailed questions about snow-day accounting and whether unused snow days could shorten the school year; administrators said the proposed calendar included two snow days and noted trade-offs required by state statute (districts generally cannot start before Sept. 1 without an exemption). Members discussed alignment with neighboring districts and community childcare concerns. After discussion, a board member moved and the board voted to approve Version 1.
The administration said staff will return with final KPI materials and additional calendar details as requested by board committees.
