Hingham School Committee approves PTO mini-grants totaling $12,311.92, OKs boys hockey trip and moves to executive session

Grant approvals: The committee accepted $9,031.20 in combined mini-grants from the Hingham High School PTO to support SWELL programming, arts enrichment and classroom resources; South School PTO grants totaling $2,926.72 for instructional supports, field trips and subscriptions; and an East School PTO donation of $354 to fund a first-grade "Balloons Over Bridal" event. The three votes were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The combined total of the three approvals is $12,311.92.
Athletics: Members also voted to approve an out-of-state field trip for the Hingham High School boys hockey team on Dec. 6; the motion passed by voice vote after the committee confirmed it had delegated routine trip approvals to district staff in similar past cases.
Executive session: At the end of the meeting the committee voted to adjourn to executive session under Massachusetts General Law, chapter 30A, section 21(a)(3), to approve prior executive session minutes and to discuss strategy related to collective bargaining and litigation. The roll call recorded "aye" votes from John, Pat, Tim, Carrie, Lehi, Michelle and the chair.
What the approvals mean: The PTO funds will be distributed to teachers and programs as requested; the district indicated it will confirm any outstanding logistical details for the hockey trip with families. The executive-session motion closes the public portion of the meeting; the committee did not return to open session.
