Hingham accepts $10,000 private donation for high school dock; two small grants also approved

The Hingham School Committee accepted a $10,000 private donation from local resident Steven Berger to support phase-two equipment purchases for the recently opened high school dock. Superintendent Katie Roberts described Berger as a long-time donor and said the district had previously received $30,000 from him and other philanthropic partners to fully fund the physical Dock Space; Berger joined the call and said he has been "a big believer in fitness and conditioning" since retiring and was pleased to support Hingham athletics.
The committee then accepted additional smaller donations and grants reported by the executive director of business and support, Ayesha Oppong: a $640 donation from Derby Street Shops property management (periodic proceeds from shop sales) and a $497 mini-grant from Cape Cod 5 Savings Bank for the physics/science department. Motions to accept each donation and grant were made, seconded, and approved by roll call.
The district noted that equipment purchases from Berger’s donation are in process and that additional items are expected to arrive by January. The committee thanked Berger and district staff for facilitating philanthropic support for student activities.
